I use this word euphemistically. To expect the carnage to stop is certainly engaging in super optimism. But like any challenge, it can be at least controlled significantly.
A report released recently by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention paints a worrying picture of this phenomenon. According to the report, opioids- prescription and illicit are the main drivers of drug overdose deaths. In 2015, 33,091 deaths were reported from drug overdose. This figure represents a staggering four times the incidence of such deaths over 1999.
West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Rhode Island and New Hampshire were the five states with the highest number of deaths.
