It seemed like eternity before Sherry arrived back at home. Charles was getting a splitting headache. He opened the medicine press which was positioned in the bathroom area. A bottle of painkillers was always there so he took one. There was silence as both he and his wife were uncertain what words to use to break the silence. Charles wanted more quietude than anything else. He was not prepared to question Sherry about her disappearance, at least not tonight.
Sherry slipped into the shower and began singing as she tried to compose herself. Uncertain if her actions were the right one, a sudden fear enveloped her. She wanted to know if her husband was angry or he just didn't care about her actions. Her disappearance was intended to get him upset. Charles felt her actions portrayed both insecurity and immaturity. He was willing to be patient with her.
However, there was some perplexity that lingered in his mind. "Why in heavens was his wife angry in the first place and why did she disappear from the home for some hours. He thought the best thing to do was to just ignore it and try to get a good night's rest.
After getting into her night clothes, Sherry eased herself onto the bed near her husband. There was an awkward silence. "You don't even care about me," grumbled Sherry. Charles sensed the thunder that was about to descend and quickly thought of a way to diffuse it. "Honey I love you and I always will," he whispered. Sherry was surprised by his reaction. "Do you really care about me Charles?" she questioned. "Yes my dear," He answered.
