Coculade,Texas was  a quiet neighborhood. It was a melting pot of many cultures-almost cosmopolitan. Each family abided by an unwritten rule to not pry into the others' affairs, unless there was a stranger disturbing the laid-back atmosphere. Since its construction, there was one passing tornado that caused a few families some discomfort. The storm turned out to be more of an irritant than a real disaster. A few passing cars stopped to enquire is any help was needed. None was.
The Vanvilts were about to experience an eruption of some sort.  Charles and his son exited the car and made their way through the back door with the garage behind them. Kim welcomed her brother who  beamed with excitement as the smell of food wafted across the kitchen. Johnny was hungry. "How did the practice go?" asked his sister. "Great!" exclaimed Johnny. "What did you guys cook?" asked Johnny. His eyes darted to the pan of roasted chicken that lay on the dining table. A bowl of mixed vegetables sat next to the tan colored meat. Stella added to the excitement when she took out a Pyrex dish of roasted potatoes. Johnny dashed to his room, threw his basketball in a corner and sprinted to the dining table as if he were still on the court. "Can I have mine now Miss Stella before mom and dad come to the table?" asked Johnny. "I guess so," replied Stella. She quickly sliced a chunk of chicken and lavishly added the vegetables and potatoes. Johnny devoured the catch in a whisker.
Kim and Stella served themselves small portions of the dinner. They quietly chatted  while Mr. and Mrs. Vanvilt remained in the bedroom.
"Megan called today," reported Sherry to her husband. Charles barley heard the comment as he was accustomed to his wife making remarks that didn't necessarily require a response. "Oh, so you're pretending as if he didn't hear me," bellowed his wife. "What, what happened? enquired a puzzled husband. "Ok, don't bother, grunted Sherry. "What are you talking about, please for heaven's sake!" remarked a startled husband. "I have nothing more to say," barked his wife. "Look honey, if you have something to tell me, could you please say it clearly and quietly, because I'm totally confused. Sherry marched out of the room.
