Stevie Wonder
To write an article that would do justice to the music accomplishments to this artist is an extremely challenging one. That being said, I will still attempt to do a synopsis of Stevie Wonder's journey as a musician.
Stevie Wonder is undoubtedly one of the most talented musician on the musical arena over the past 40 years. With 63 top 100 entries and 10 number one hits, plus 20 R&B toppers, Stevie belongs to an exclusive club of double digits number one chart toppers.
To place Wonder's music in a particular category, is difficult. His songs have spawned many genres. His 1976 release of "Songs in the Key of Life," has been described by music journalists as the culmination of Stevie's "classical period" of recordings. Then there is "Master Blaster", a reggae piece paying tribute to Bob Marley and the liberation of Africa. A team up with reggae group "Third World" , "Try Jah Love" adds to his repertoire in this genre.
Phew, it's that too much? I've just got started. Anyway, I'll just add that at the age of 38, Stevie Wonder became the youngest living person to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
So, I'll stop here and look at the lyrics of one of his great songs - a tough job again.
"As" by Stevie Wonder
As around the sun the earth knows she's revolving
And the rosebuds know to bloom in early May
Just as hate knows love's the cure
You can rest your mind assure
That I'll be loving you always
As now can't reveal the mystery of tomorrow
But in passing will grow older every day
Just as all is born is new
Do know what I say is true
That I'll be loving you always
Until the rainbow burns the stars out of the skies
Until the ocean covers every mountain high
Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea
Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream
Did you know that true love asks for nothing?
Her acceptance is the way we pay
Did you know that life has given love a guarantee?
To last through forever and another day
Just as time knew how to move on since the beginning
And the seasons know exactly when to change
Just as kindness knows no shame
Know through all your joy and pain
That I'll be loving you always
As today I know I'm living but tomorrow
Could make me the past but I mustn't fear
For I know deep in my mind
The love of me I've left behind
Cause I'll be loving you always....
I'll stop here for now as this song is pretty long and deep.
What adds greatness to this song is the way it was delivered by Stevie. He occasionally slips into a baritone and staccato adding move energy and conviction to the lyrics. Listen for yourselves.
