"Agony In The Garden" by William Blake 1757--1827. Tempera on iron.
Set at night in the Garden of Gethsemane. Blake's imagery is as radical as its watercolors. An angel appears from heaven to strength Jesus, and his "sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground."
Christ's head is tilted in an extreme to face the angel, who grasps him under the armpit. The disciples are seen asleep among the large tree-- trunks.
