GUYANA is positioned at the north-eastern tip of South America. Though she is geographically South American, she is culturally Caribbean. When sugar was king, many of its inhabitants were employed in the sugar industry after the abolition of slavery. The tool used to harvest the cane was the cutlass.(still used today) as the picture above illustrates the cutlass has many other uses. Guyanese do not say machete but cutlass. By the way, Guyana is the only English speaking country in South America.
