Pictures above depict  HVANNADALSHNJUKUR MOUNTAIN  which towers 6,290 feet above sea level in Iceland . This mountain has an active volcano that has erupted twice in 1362 and 1727. the last reuption is reported to have lasted for one whole year. it filled the atmosphere with so much ash that is was diffult to tell the difference between night and day.
Below the mountain are two of the many lakes found in this European country which lies at the western most part of the continent.One of the lakes  - Vitri is also called /the lake of hell because of the heat it emits making dangerous for anyone to go into it.
Iceland is belived to have been first settled by Irish monks in 8AD .  Somewhere around 874AD  teh monks fled after the Norsemen arrived. The new arrivals who were did not share the the same beliefs as the monks were also fleeing their homeland because of King Harald Fairhair.
Today Iceland is a  stable counrty with 92 percent of the 2,000,000 population being Evangelican Lutheran..this This 102.775 km square country has Reykjavik as its capital. Icelandic is the main language spoken with a significant number of it's population speak English. Tourist flock this country for it's lakes and it's peculiar atmosphere.
