The current American flag was designed by a high school student Bob Heft. In his junior high school in 1958, Bob had a project when he designed the flag with with 50 stars even though Alaska and Hawaii weren't states as yet. Heft figured the two would earn statehood soon. The student got a B- for his effort. Bob's design was shown to President Dwight Eisenhower who gave his nod to the design. So, Bob's teacher upped his grade to an A.
