One of the big problems, Ms. Stanton argues we face is the fixation we have with specific vitamins and or minerals. This can lead manufacturers to add nutrients to food and make health claims for them.The nuritionist identified among others, heavily sweetened breakfast cereals. Ms. Stanton pointed out that she is yet to find an Australian deficient in the sort of nutrients that go into fortified foods. She believes the same age-old dietary wisdom stills\ holds: lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains small amounts of protien , particularly fish and seafood. "For this reason the Mediterranean diet is often upheld by many as as the closest thing to a dietary magic bullet, heavy in plant based foods and oily fish," she offered.
