PARALYSED PEOPLE WALK AGAIN.

The New Englan Journal of Medicine  is reporting that a research team from the University of Louisville and the Mayo Clinic have been successful in their experiment to make some paralysed patients walk again.

Three patients, all paralysed from the waist down, have been able to walk again using an electrical patch fiitted to their spinal cords. The device is fitted below the injury whic helps lost signals from the brain reach the leg muscles.

The Journal interviewed the patients - twenty-three year old Kelly Thomas from Florid who after months of intense rehabilitation therapy says, " Being a participant in this study truly changed my life, as it has provided me with hope that I didn't think was possible after my car accident."
Jeff Marquis 35, is also able to walk with support from the frame or therapist., after he became paralysed from a biking accident in a mountainous area.
After injuring his spine in a snowmobile accident, 29-year old Jered Chinnock was treated at a Mayo Clinic in collaboration with the University of California.

Co-head of the research team, neurosurgeon Dr. Kendall Lee, is excited with the progress made so far, but notes that the experiment is in it's early stage. "It gives hope to people faced with paralysis," he said.
