Is this the next COVID Threat?
As frustrating as it it, viruses mutate. This is a word most of us we would like to eliminate from our vocabulary -mute- hell no! Just when we thought we were through with Covid-19 or at least live with a few cases popping up here and there we now hear about Omicron and then a subvariant and another subvariant.
Discovered in India in June this year, Omicron BA.5 has been reported to be affecting people in 15 countries , including the US. and in seven states so far. How serious is Omicron BA.5? The World Health Organization (WHO), says it is watching the variant closely. Some infectious disease experts say, there's no cause for alarm - yet. Editor -in-chief of Medscape, Eric Topol seems to feel that "Any worry about this variant is misplaced, at least as this juncture."
"I wouldn't panic yet," says Rajendram Rajnarayanan, PHD, and assistant dean of research and professor at Arkansas State University.
Let's wait to see what's the next medical report would be on this variant.
