Following a period of Arad rule, Bahrain was controlled by the Portuguese Empire from 1521 to 1602. They were expelled by Shah Abbas 1 of the Safavid dynasty. In the 1800s Bahrain became a protectorate of the United Kingdom. In 1971 it declared independence and became an Islamic constitutional monarchy in 2002. It's capital is known as Manama or (Al- Manamah)
Bahrain is considered the fastest growing economy in the Arab world. And is arguably the freest economy in the Middle East. it's current GDP is approximately 39 billion USD
