It's capital city, Port-of-Spain, is located on the north western coast of the island of Trinidad.

The Spanish later ceded to the British in 1802 as two separate islands. They later became unified again in 1888 as Trinidad and Tobago. This island nation gained independence from the British in 1962, and later became a republic in 1976.
