Seychelles
Officially the Republic of Seychelles is an island country and archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean. This country is considered one of the smaller territories in the world by area, measuring just 176 square miles, and a population of around 1060,000 residents. It's the smallest country in Africa. Other nearby territories include: Camaros, Madagascar, Mauritius, and the French overseas departments of Mayotte and Réunion to the south; and Maldives and the Chagos archipelago, administered by the British.
Victoria, the capital, is the largest city in Seychelles and is only 7.8 square miles and is situated on the northeastern side of the Mah'e islands, east of mainland Africa. This is the archipelago main island. The capital was originally settled by French colonists in 1788 after they claimed the island and carried a French name. This was later changed in 1841 to Victoria when the British renamed the island after Queen Victoria.
There are three official languages spoken in the Seychelles: English, French and Seychellois Creole. Christianity is the main religion observed in this country, with 94.7% identified as members of this group. This is followed by, Hinduism, 2.4% and no religion the same number. Islam make up 0.9% and others 0.5%.
Tourism is an important sector of the Seychelles economy. Its principal exports are: vanilla, coconuts, coconut oil, fish, and guano. Its current GDP stands at 2.085 billion USD.
