The people in Denmark have a tradition of smashing dishware, often at the doorsteps of friends and family on New Year's' Day. This practice is meant to bring them good luck for the remainder of the new year.
Also, some Danes "leap" into January from a chair at the stroke of midnight. They believe that they are leaping into good luck as well.

As recent as 1995, the people of Talca, Chile, started a tradition of partying with the dead on New Years Eve. This started when a family jumped over the cemetery fence on New Year's Eve to spend some time with a recently deceased father.
Local authorities relaxed the law of closure for cemeteries on that day. So, more families decorate the graves of their deceased and celebrate with them on New Years Eve.

The people of Naples, Italy, believe that firing old things through the window on New Years Eve, symbolizes , out-with-the-old and getting a brand new beginning for the year ahead. A bit more caution is exhibited these days with throwing things through their windows.

The song most dedicated to celebrating a new year. This Swedish group rocked the musical world in the 70s. And their musical influence continue to be felt even today. Their new year's song is still popular today.

Happy New Year

No more champagne
And the fireworks are through
Here we are, me and you
Feeling lost and feeling blue
It's the end of the party
And the morning seems so grey
So unlike yesterday
Now's the time for us  to say...

Happy new year
Happy new year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbor is a friend
Happy new year
Happy new year
May we all have our hopes, or will try

If we don't we might as well lay down and die
You and I

Sometimes I see
How the brave new world arrives
And I see how it thrives
In the ashes of our lives
Oh yes, man is a fool
And he thinks he'll be okay
Dragging on feet of clay
Never knowing he's astray
Keeps on going anyway...

Happy new year
Happy new year

May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbor is a friend
Happy new year
Happy new year
May we all have our hopes, or will try
If we don't we might as well lay down and die
You and I

Seems to me now
That the dream we had before
Are all dead, nothing more
Than confetti on the floor
It's the end of a decade
In another ten years time
Who can say what we'll find
What lies waiting down the line...
In the end of eighty-nine...
(Repeat chorus, Happy new year...)

Twitch of the ears, a stare at a stranger in a store, make a face at an old lady in the street, on a treadmill with full jacket and tie on, an attempt to use a spoon in a keyhole of  a car door to open it. Making the shape of the numbers 69 on January 6 with your fingers. No, you don't mean to be vulgar- it's your birthday and age. They just won't get it, even now. Rowan Atkinson. (Mr. Bean)

Okay, "Little Women", I mean, woman. Don't forget you turn 28 on January 3. I know you wouldn't want to be a big woman yet. Don't worry girl, in our eyes you'll always be, "Little Women", ahh, woman. Have a great day.

Keeping A Poinsettia Alive After Christmas.
Picture
Picture
Not so fast! You don't have to toss your Christmas poinsettia away just now. The red and white flowering beauties can be kept all year- round. And with proper care and attention they will rebloom just in time for next year's festivities.
Growing poinsettias as houseplants is pretty simple: Provide water, sunlight and occasional fertilizer, and they'll be happy. Getting poinsettia to bloom for nex December? is another story altogether. Are you up to the challenge?
Here's how!
*After the holidays, set the plant in a sunny spot, watering as needed until the flowers fade, then stop watering.

* When the plants drop their leaves and enter dormancy, lay the pots on their sides and place them in a cool, dark spot such as an unheated cellar, until April. Visit them periodically and spray them with water if their stems start to shrivel.

* In April prune 2 inches off of each stem and reintroduce plants to their sunny spots in the living area of your house. Poinsettias thrive best in temperatures between 70 - 75 degrees during the day and 60 - 65 degrees during the night. Keep the soil moist but not soggy.

* If you'd like to move the plant outdoors for summer, wait until the danger of frost has past, then transition them gradually by increasing their outdoor exposure by a few days. Otherwise, continue to care for them as houseplants. Either way, begin feeding monthly, one teaspoon of 20-20-20 fertilizer per gallon of water.

* Bring vacationing poinsettia back indoors by September, first checking for insects and rinsing plants and pots  with a gentle stream of water.

*In order to flower, poinsettia need a 40-day period of  complete darkness for 15 hours daily. So, beginning October 1, keep the plants in a bright sunny spot, from 8:00am to 5:00 pm daily, then move into a dark place from 5:00pm to 8:00 am.

* When bracts begin to take on a reddish or white hue, typically around the second week of November, start keeping plants in the main parts of the house full-time. Continue to water and fertilize, and place your poinsettia in a prominent spot among your holiday decorations.
Good luck.

Habits That Are Bad for Your Heart.

1. You Bank on Your Workouts.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Do you exercise? That's great! But if you sit down for most of the rest of your day, that's a problem. You need to be active all day long. Little bursts count. If you have a desk job, take a short walk every hour to boost your circulation, even if it's just to the break room. Binge -watching your favorite show? Get up and dance or do push-ups during the commercials.

2. You Say "I'm Too Young"

Picture
Don't wait to work on keeping your heart healthy. Exercise, eat a healthy diet and know your numbers - blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar. The ideal time to do your heart a favor is now.

3. One Drink Too Many

Picture
For most people, moderate drinking (one a day for women, up to two daily for men) is OK , A daily drink may even have some benefits for some people. But more than that can raise certain levels of fats in the blood and raise blood pressure, too. That's especially true if you have several drinks at a time. So stick to your daily limit.

4. You Dis A Good- For -Your Diet

Picture
You may think it's going to be all out oat bran, all the time. Surprise! There's no reason for your food to be bland and boring. A Mediterranean- style diet has delicious foods like, olive oil, nuts, fruits, whole grains, fish, lean protein and red wine. It helps keep your heart healthy, thanks to the "good" fats, fiber and nutrients. Plus you'll actually want to stick to this diet because it tastes so good.

5. You Don't Know Your Numbers.
Picture
Pop quiz: What's your cholesterol level? How about your blood pressure? No Clue? That's risky. They could be too high without you knowing. (You could feel just fine and have high cholesterol or high blood pressure), So protect yourself. Starting at age 20 make sure you see your doctor regularly and create a plan to check and track your numbers.

6. Waist Not

Picture
Belly fat is particularly bad for your heart. So get your tape measure and size up the inches around your waist. It's a red flag if it's more than 35 inches for women and 40 inches for men. Need to slim down? Take it step by step. Even losing a small amount of weight is good for your heart.

7. You Ignore Your Blues.

Picture
When you're feeling low, it's hard to do things that are good for your health, like exercise. If you've felt down for more than a few weeks, talk to your doctor or a mental health professional. Talk therapy, exercise and medication (if needed) can improve your mood so you can have more time to take care of yourself.

8. You Blow Off Secondhand Smoke

Picture
Someone else's smoke could hurt your heart and blood vessels. You need to avoid it. If you spend a lot of time with someone who isn't ready to quit smoking, insist they at least not smoke around you, whether it's home, work , or in the car. Your tough love may be the nudge they need to kick the habit, which will be good for both of you.
