Officially the Republic of Indonesia is located in Southeast Asia and Oceania between the Indian and the Pacific oceans.
It consists of over 17000 islands, including Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, and parts of Bernero and New Guinea. This country has a population of over 273.8 million made up of over 40% Javanese, followed by Sudanese, Malay, Batak, Madurese, Betawi and others. In fact, there are about 200 ethnic groups in Indonesia.
There are over 11 million people living in Jakarta, its capital- a bustling city with heavy tourist attraction.
Even though the Dutch ruled this colony from 1861 to 1941, and later a brief Japanese occupation from 1941 to 1945, the official language is Indonesian.
Ranked the fourth largest populated country in the world, with a GDP of 1.186 trillion USD.
Indonesia has a special distinction of having the largest Islamic worshippers more than any other country- 87.2% of the population. There are about 2.9% of Roman Catholics, 1.7% Hindus and 8.2% of others.
