With a population of just over 47 million, Spain has a diverse culture. There is no official religion. The Spanish Constitution of 1878 abolished the Roman Catholic Church as the official state religion. The state, however, does recognize the role religion plated in it's history.
A recent census found that 68.5% of the population identify as Catholics, 24.6% as non-believers, or atheist and 2.6% other religions (Islam, Buddhist, Protestant Christians, etc.)
