So you always wanted to know who invented the "Barbie Doll", or perhaps you never thought about it or, maybe as a passing thought guessed it was a man. Well, this toy which sold over a billion worldwide was the brainchild of Denver born Ruth Marianna Handler.
Ruth came from a Russian Jewish immigrants named Moskowicz Miss Moskowicz was born in 1916. She started working as a stenographer . She married her her high school sweet heart, Elliot Handler. The union produced two children, Barbara and Ken. It was while taking their two teenage children on a trip to Europe in 1956 that they saw a doll that looked like an adult woman which inspired the creation of the Barbie Doll
Ruth Handler died in in 2002.
