Sarah Breedlove ( Madame C. J . Walker)
Born on December 23, 1867 to enslaved parents, Sarah was inspired to create her hair products after an experience with hair loss.
Her method is known as the "Walker system" , which involves scalp preparation, lotions and iron combs. Her custom pomade was a wild success. She sold her products directly to Black women Wonderful Hair, Grower, Glossine and Vegetable Shampoo were some of her more famous inventions.
The success of her business enabled her to become very wealthy . In fact Madame C.J. Walker became the first Black female millionaire in the U.S. She died in 1919
