Bob Marley. It's not very often that an artist is able to effect a whole cultural shift in a society and even around the world. A few names come to mind like Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin. What is perhaps unique in this situation is that the musical icon emerges from a Third World country and is Black.
Robert Nestor Marley - more affectionately known as Bob Marley, came up from St. Ann in Jamaica and identified himself as a Trench Town "boy" - the birthplace of rocksteady and reggae music. After linking up with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer in the early 1960s - two other successful Jamaican artist, he later formed his own group Bob Marley and the Wailers. This group released a series of albums that caught the ears of a whole country- Jamaica and most of the rest of the world. Marley, a Rastafarian with his swinging dreadlocks, skanking, and high pitched tenor coupled with his emotive wailing, stunned many concert goers wherever he and his group performed. A new movement was born - Rastafari music. All around the world people of many ethnicities were wearing dreadlocks and singing and dancing to reggae music. Albums released includes: *Rastaman Vibrations 1976 *Exodus 1977 - This album was voted "Album of the Century" by Time Magazine *Survival 1979 *Uprising 1980 And there are many more. For his short time on stage , Marley's influence continues to be felt today. It is from the album "Exodus" that I've selected a song that reflected Marley's more romantic moods - "Waiting in Vain" The music on this album is so rich and the mood will undoubtedly rock you as you listen. The rhythm section is a combination of the guitar and organ. The syncopated bass adds more pulse to the sounds. Then the lead guitar mesmerizes you with it's almost fantasy-like trip. Let's take a look. Waiting In Vain I don't wanna wait in vain for your love I don't wanna wait in vain for your love From the very time I placed my eyes on you, girl My heart says follow through But I know , now I'm way down on your line But the waiting feel is fine So don't treat me like a puppet on a string 'Cause I know how to do my thing Don't talk to me as if you think I'm dumb I wanna know when you're gonna come See, I don't wanna wait in vain for your love I don't wanna wait in vain for your love I don't wanna wait in vain for your love 'Cause if summer is here And I'm Still waiting there Winter is here And I'm still waiting Like I said It's been three years since I'm knocking on your door And I still can knock some more Ooh girl, ooh girl, is it feasible? I wanna know now, for I to knock some more Ya see, in life I know there's lots of grief But your love is my relief Tears in my eyes burn, tears in my eyes burn While I'm waiting , while I'm for my turn I don't wanna wait in vain..... A guy was late for an important meeting. But he can't find a place to park.
In desperation, he begins to pray: "Please Lord, if you help me find a parking stall right now, I promise to go to church and never drink vodka again." A moment later, he sees a beautiful empty spot right next to the entrance. "Never mind , found one." Omicron Subvariant BA.5 Is this the next COVID Threat? As frustrating as it it, viruses mutate. This is a word most of us we would like to eliminate from our vocabulary -mute- hell no! Just when we thought we were through with Covid-19 or at least live with a few cases popping up here and there we now hear about Omicron and then a subvariant and another subvariant.
Discovered in India in June this year, Omicron BA.5 has been reported to be affecting people in 15 countries , including the US. and in seven states so far. How serious is Omicron BA.5? The World Health Organization (WHO), says it is watching the variant closely. Some infectious disease experts say, there's no cause for alarm - yet. Editor -in-chief of Medscape, Eric Topol seems to feel that "Any worry about this variant is misplaced, at least as this juncture." "I wouldn't panic yet," says Rajendram Rajnarayanan, PHD, and assistant dean of research and professor at Arkansas State University. Let's wait to see what's the next medical report would be on this variant. |
