A Few Things About Ukraine

This is the second largest country in Europe, after Russia. The population of this eastern European country is over 44 million, It is a major exporter of wheat, corn and vegetable oil. There is also an abundant reserve of coal, iron ore, natural gas, manganese, salt and titanium.

The capital Kyiv is located in the north-central of the country and is filled with striking Soviet styled architecture. This city is decorated with monasteries, golden-domed churches, and beautiful streets.

Established as far back as 482 AD. Kyiv, faced both Russian and German occupation and had a considerable part to play in the development of both the medieval East Slavic civilization.

Other important town in Ukraine are, Rakhiv, Chernobyl, Odessa, Kharkiv, and Uman.

Johnny's mother looked out the window and noticed him "playing church" with their cat. He had the cat sitting quietly and he was preaching to it She smiled and went about her work.

A while later she heard a loud meowing and hissing and ran back to open the window to see Johnny baptizing the cat in a tub of water.

She called out, " Johnny stop that! The cat is afraid of water!"
Johnny looked up and her and said,

"He should have thought about that before he joined my church."

SYMPTOMS OF COLON CANCER.

Also known as colorectal cancer, colon cancer affects more than 200, 000 US citizens annually. This disease attacks the colon or rectum, located at the end of the digestive tract's lower end.

Early cases can begin as noncancerous polyps. These often have no symptoms but can be detected by screening.

Here are a few things you need to know.

* When doctors find this disease early, it's highly curable. It happens when abnormal cells grow in the lining of the large intestine . It can strike both men and women, and it is the second highest rate of cancer deaths in the US.

*Polyps

These are growth on the inside of your intestine . Most of them are harmless, but some turn into colorectal cancer if not removed early. Intestinal polyps form when there are problems with the way cells grow and repair in the lining of the colon.

*Risk Factors

(a) Your age - most people with it are older than 50.
(b) Polyps or inflammatory disease.
(c) Family history of colorectal cancer or precancerous colon polyps.

* Things you can do.
(a) Avoid eating a lot of red or processed meats, or those cooked at high temperatures.
(b) Watch your weight. Obesity ( too much fat around the waist) is a risk factor.
(c) Exercise often.
(d) Cut back on smoking
(e) Control your alcohol use

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Celebrating Black History we recognize an outstanding Black entrepreneur. When Howard Johnson dared to dream to publish a magazine that would reflect the culture and achievements of Black Americans and some in other countries he hit a roadblock. He had no money.

Upon application of a loan from the bank he learned that that service was not granted to Blacks at that time. He pawned his mother's furniture and Black mega-company was born. Ebony Magazine sold millions annually and created employment for many.

The magazine continues it's publication 76 years after it's founding. Mr. Johnson died in 2005.

We salute a great Black entrepreneur.

Women Inventors

Bettie Nesmith Graham.

Some inventions are the result of mistakes made and a solutions discovered to correct them. This was certainly the case with the invention of liquid paper.
Back in the days when the typewriter was the chief means of producing documents printed in offices, mistakes were obviously made. But there was no way to correct it. Simple erasures used to remove lead pencil work was not suitable for work that were printed of an inked ribbon from a typewriter.
In was customary that a solution would have come from someone who worked in a lab and was au fait with chemical compounds.
Enter typist and painter. Bettie was in fact considered a mediocre typist- she made many mistakes. She was determined to correct messy work and her intuition kicked in She invented the Liquid Paper and saved countless women the discomfort of submitting untidy work in offices.
Bettie founded the Mistake Out company and Liquid Paper was a success.

A 65 year old woman had a heart attack and was taken to hospital.
While on the operating table, she had a near death experience. On seeing God, she asked: " Is my time up?"
God said: "No, you have another 33 years, 2 months and 8 days to live."
Upon recovery, the woman decided to say in the hospital and have a face lift, liposuction, breast implants and tummy tuck. She even had have someone come in and change the color of her hair and brighten her teeth. Since she had so much time to live, she figured she might as well make the most of it.
After her last operation, she was released from the hospital. While crossing the street on her way home, she was killed by an ambulance.
Arriving in front of God, she asked, "I thought you said I had another 33 years? Why didn't you pull me from out of the path of the ambulance?
God replied, " Girl, I didn't recognize you."
