Some Habits To Lower Breast Cancer Risk

1. Balance Your Diet

Picture
Your food choices may help cut your odds of having breast cancer, though scientists are doing more research to learn how diet affects the disease. Focus on vegetable, fruits, beans , and whole grains. which should make up two-thirds of your plate. Reserve the other third for lean protein such as poultry and fish. More than five cups a day of plant-based fare is a good is a good guideline.

2. Limit Alcohol
Picture
If you're a woman who has two or three servings a day of wine, beer, or liquor, your risk is 20% higher than the one who doesn't drink at all. Experts say if you want to imbibe, have no more than one drink a day. That only slightly raises your chances of getting breast cancer.

3. Don't smoke

Picture
Tobacco use is linked to a higher risk of breast cancer, especially in younger women who haven't gone through menopause. How much you smoke, the age you started, and how long you continue will affect how likely you are to get the disease. If you are a smoker, ask your health care provider on ways to help you quit.

4. Know Your tissue Type

Picture
The makeup of all breasts is different. If you have less fatty flesh and more milky glands and supportive tissue, they are called "dense." that can raise your breast cancer risk and make abnormal cells harder to spot on scans.
Mammograms are one way to measure your tissue type. If you have dense breasts, take other steps to lower your odds of breast cancer. You may need to get screening more often or use more advanced screening tests.

5. Get Your Workouts In

Picture
Regular physical activity can lower your breast cancer risk. Experts say you should get either 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of harder, vigorous workouts over the course of a week. You can also do  a bit of both.

6. Watch The Scale

Picture
When you eat a balanced diet and exercise that can help you stay at a healthy weight, which lowers your chance of breast cancer. Extra pounds especially if you put them on as an adult, are linked to a higher risk of the disease. This is especially true for women who have been through menopause.

7. Consider Your Birth Control

Picture
Hormonal forms of contraception-- such as pills and some IUDs--are linked to a slightly higher chance of breast cancer. But they can also protect you against other types of tumors. Your doctor can help you think about how the things that raise your odds of having breast cancer compare with the reliability and benefits of different types of birth control and decide what's best for you.

8. What About HRT?

Picture
Some women take hormone replacement therapy to ease menopause symptoms or prevent bone fractures. But your risk of breast cancer rises when you take the combination type ( estrogen and progesterone) or if you take the estrogen-only type for many years. If menopause seriously affects you, talk to your doctor about your options. If you decide to take this medication, you will want the lowest effective dose for the shortest amount of time.

9. Keep It Dark

Picture
Women exposed to a lot of light at night--whether because they do shiftwork or they live in well-lit areas -- may have a higher risk of breast cancer Researchers think it's a hormone called melatonin, which your body makes when darkness falls so you'll feel sleepy. If you can, try to control how much light you're around at night. Tools like blackout shades, a sleeping mask, and low -watt bulbs in your bathroom can help.

Check Your Toiletries

Picture
Many cosmetics, lotions and  hair products have parabens, which can act like a weak estrogen in your body. Some scientist think these chemicals might be able to trigger hormone-positive breast cancer, but the research is far from clear. If you're worried about the risk you can buy items without these substances.

Gardening Trends for 2024
Picture
Prioritizing Pollination

The sight of bees, butterflies, beetles, and birds is a sign that your garden is wildlife friendly and teeming with biodiversity. The National Gardening Survey saw a 10 percent increase year-on- year in people planting for pollination.

Picture
Enhancing Outdoor Space with Edimentals.

Edimentals are plants that are both ornamental and edible. They can be annuals, perennials, shrub or trees. Edimentals are not only beautiful additions to also offer tasty and often highly nutritious fruits, leaves, roots, or flowers for you to eat.
Edimentals are more low maintenance than traditional vegetable crops, as you don't need to sow and attend to annuals every year.

Enhancing Plants with Moody Colors.

Like this "Abracadabra" rose. Does your garden need a little magic? Try the unusual and nearly thornless "Abracadabra" which intrigues with dark russet bloom and lemony yellow stripes. This variety makes unforgettable bouquets and has a faint butterscotch scent when warmed by the sun.

Picture
Integrating Naturalistic Schemes Into Beds And Borders.

Naturalistic planting allows for artistic freedom in the garden and encourages us to embrace imperfection, letting nature take the lead but not neglecting the space. The focus is on plant diversity, and adding species that work with nature and your local zone, while being a haven for native wildlife and pollinators.

"The Creation of Man" also known as "The Creation of Adam." by Michelangelo. 1508 -1512

Michelangelo was a sculpture, painter, and architect, widely considered to be one of the greatest artist of the Renaissance- and arguably of all time. Born on March 6, 1475 in Caprice, Italy. His father worked for the Florentine government, and shortly after his birth the family returned to Florence, the city Michelangelo would always consider his true home.
Because his work was recognized as extraordinary, he was commissioned by many in the upper hierarchy including the Pope Julius  in 1505 to sculp a grand tomb of 40 life-size statutes. His work can be seen over many places in Italy including his famous depiction of the 12 apostles in the ceiling of the  Sistine Chapel and his sculpture of David. This artist lived to age 88 and is buried in the Basilica di Santa Croce.

Rome was founded in 753 BC by twin brothers, Romulus and Remus. Legend has it that they were left to drown in a basket on the Tiber by a king of nearby Alba Longa and rescued by a she-wolf. The twins lived to defeat that king and founded their own city on the river banks in 753 BC.
Romulus killed his brother and became the first king of Rome, which is named after him. There are seven legendary kings of Rome: Romulus, Nama Pompilius, Tullus Hostilius, Ancus Martius, Lucius Tarquinius Priscus, Servius Tullius, and Tarquinius Superbus. They were referred to as "Rex , or King in Latin. All the kings after Romulus were elected by the senate.
Over eight and a half centuries, the Roman Empire grew from a small town of pig farmers into a vast empire that stretched from England to Egypt and completely surrounded the Mediterranean Sea. This empire is speculated to have fallen sometime around 476 AD. when the eastern half officially became the Byzantine Empire.
Roman philosophy was heavily influenced by Greek philosophy , but incorporated Roman law into religion and culture. Some of it's more well known philosophers were: Marcus Aurelius, Cicero, Seneca, Plotinus, and Hypatia.

Neptune is the eight and farthest planet from the sun. It is the fourth largest planet in the solar system by diameter, the third most massive planet, the densest planet and it is 17 times the mass of Earth.
Neptune's atmosphere is composed primarily of  hydrogen and helium along with traces of hydrocarbons and possibly nitrogen. It's interior is primarily composed of ices and rock.
Most languages today use some variant of the name, Neptune. In Chinese, Japanese Vietnamese and Korean, the name was translated as "Sea king star. Mongolians call it "Dalian van", the Greek say," Poseidon", in Hebrew , "Rahab", from a Biblical sea monster mentioned in the Book of Psalms. In Māori, the planet is called, Tangaroa. And in Indonesia, Nuptunus.

Here comes the new opportunities. The chance to take care of ourselves, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Nobody is going to do it for us. Not because they are selfish but more likely they themselves, are struggling to make sense of what they are doing from day to day.
Some people bow to the pressure of conforming to a multitude of standards, some of which might be conflicting. Because of the lack of self belief which might be the result of several factors, we might just take charge and live a balanced life, with empathy for those who might not be at a certain level of consciousness. Remember, even the teacher has flaws. Let's vigorously rub our palms together and be grateful for what is. A better year in 2024 is wished for all our followers. Choose to be thankful. Cheers!

Born Helen Folasade Adu but professionally  known as Sade (Shah-day) this Nigerian -born British singer hit the music scene with a new sound in the 80s. To categorize her blend would not be spot on. What is without a doubt is her classy presentation on every song she has given us. That contralto voice morphs so beautifully with her backing instrumentalists. That haunting saxophone, rhythmic tap on the drums, feel good riff on the guitar and you are on you your way to a beautiful journey. Sade crept up on us with hits like, " The Sweetest Taboo", Smooth Operator", Your Love Is King", " Soldier Of Love", "Still In Love With You", "Somebody Already Broke My Heart", and many more. In this issue we look at "Smooth Operator"

Smooth Operator

Diamond life, lover boy
He moves in space with minimum waste and maximum joy
City nights and business nights
When you require streetcar desire for higher heights

No place for beginners or sensitive hearts
When sentiment is left to chance
No place to be ending but somewhere to start

No need to ask, he's a smooth operator
Smooth operator

Smooth operator

Coast to coast, LA to Chicago, western male
Across to north and south, to Key Largo, love for sale

Face to face, each classic case
We shadow box and double cross
Yet need to chase

A license to love, insurance to hold
Melts all your memories and changes into gold
His eyes are like angels but his heart is cold

No need to ask, he's a smooth operator
