The Many Images of People Trying To Keep Fit And Stay Healthy

Keeping fit is a task to many of us. In the age of trying to simplify everything from the way we cook, eat, have sex and moving from one destination to another, it's possible our brains have accepted that doing anything that requires much physical effort is outdated. The truth is our bodies still need some amount of physical exertion to stay healthy. "Oh gosh, this is too much."  "I'm not going to be able to do that again today." "Leave me alone"  "I'm Good" "I've got some pills here to stay healthy." These are some of the cries of anguish and often denial heard when the invitation is extended to join a friend, spouse or some acquaintance in keeping fit.
The truth is we're all going to die. But the choice available is- how much discomfort are you willing to endure when you are alive? Physical exercises don't stop us from dying  but, can reduce some of the discomfort while we're still here. Now that summer is here, this is our opportunity to get on board. It could be in our home, at the park , a gym or wherever we find convenient. One caveat, watch the food you're eating. All the exercising will come to naught, if after you pile on the same thing that got you to where you are today. Happy Exercising!
Stay healthy . Cheers!

African American Music Month

June has been recognized as the month African American artists are appreciated for the contributed to the art. This contribution is so rich and staggeringly important when one considers the obstacles that were there.
We'll start with Billy Erskine
Picture
This Black baritone singer performed to integrated audiences in the 50s even though many radio stations were reluctant to play his music. One reason cited was that he was mobbed by white teenage girls at his concerts which didn't go down well with some sections of the segregation society at that time. Billy continued performing until the time of his death in 1993.
Many other talented African American Americans musicians experienced the same fate as Billy Erskine but continued to forge forward creating some of the richest music any American can be proud of. These include: Billie Holiday

The Borley Rectory has some ghastly news for you. Built in 1862, this rectory is alleged to house ghosts that would cause your skin to grow.
In 1863 a nun was reported to have fallen in love with a monk. This evoked the ire of the church folks, her family and the wider population.  While trying to elope, the lovebirds were captured and the monk was executed. the nun on the other hand was boarded up in a cellular and left to die.
In 1900, Reverend Henry Bull's daughters reported a sighting of the nun's ghost gliding across the estate. As if that were not to enough to drive them up the wall, a headless horseman frequently raced across the property. Talk about racing heartbeats and sweaty palms, see the Bull family.

Are you aging faster than you should?

Most of us would like to maintain our youthful look as far as we can into our aging process. Some people might opt for chemical products as a means of keeping that youthful appearance while others are likely to try a variety of other remedies.
A group of scientists  have sought to examine some of  the things we can look for  to first identify if we're speeding our way to getting old and strategies we can employ to mitigate it.

*Slow Walking
If your walking pace slows while you're in your 40s, it may be a sign you're aging faster than is typical.
Walking is one of the easiest and best exercises you can do . To start a walking program, begin with 5 minutes a day and build up to 30 minutes. you can challenge yourself by increasing your time until you're comfortable with your schedule.

*Sun Spots
Brown sun spots most often appear on your face, hands, and arms, especially for people over 50. Most are harmless and are caused by years of being in the sun.
You may want to consult with a doctor if the following is observed:
(a) They are black
(b) Change shape
(c) Bleed
(d) Have a rough border.

*Memory Problems
Mild memory problems go along with aging and in some instances can start as early as age 40.
Alzheimer and other types of dementia usually don't happen until age 65. And dementia is not a normal part of aging. To help your mind sharp:
Eat healthy
Stay socially active
Exercise.

*Achy Joints.

Not everyone gets stiff joints when they get older. But your chance of getting osteoarthritis go up as you age. Men tend to get symptoms after 4, and women after 55. There's no cur, but you can slow its progress. As little as an hour exercise a week might help. Do flexibility, strength-training, and aerobic exercises

*Dry Skin

Your skin makes less oil as you age . It can become dry and dull, especially if you're over 40. But dryness  can be caused  you don't do to prevent it.
Take short baths or showers - using warm - not hot -water
Clean your skin gently and moisturize well
Drink plenty of liquids
Don't spend a lot of time in dry air.

*Easy Bruising
Things get common once you pass 60.
Your skin gets thinner and loses fat . Your blood vessels also get more fragile. And even some medicines can lead to more bruising. See you doctor if you experience:
Lots of large bruises, especially on your chest, back, or face.
You started bruising after beginning a new drug.

*Thick Waistline.
Body fats tend to shift to your belly as you get older. This is especially true for women after menopause. No matter what your age, a thick waistline can come with health problems like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Risks go up when your waist is more than 35 inches in women and 40 if you're a man.
